What’s a ball?
A ball is a competition where folks dress up and walk a runway to predetermined categories that explore and illuminate societal themes and personal interpretations of race, gender, occupation, and often the pressures of being queer and disenfranchised.
Each month with your help we’ll pick a category that has tons of space for interpretation, inclusive fun and maybe a real message.
Our hosts and event founders, J and K will be joined by two guest judges. One friend of theirs and one local celebrity.
We are accepting entries in person at Ruby Deluxe. Entrance is $7 and space in each category is limited to 10 performers. We will let you know when a category is full.
This month’s categories are:
BUTCH REALNESS with a twist
What is butch? What comes to mind when you see/hear this word?
FEMME REALNESS with a twist
What is femme? What does this word mean to you? What does it look like?
OTA VIRGIN VOGUE
This category is open to all performers with 1 year or less vogue experience.
Doors at 8pm and show starts at 10pm sharp.
Performers must prepare mostly at home due to limited prep space the night of the event.
Your entrance fee goes towards trophies and prizes for the winner and runner up of each category.
The competition will be judged on performance, and costume/outfit originality and creativity.
Let’s have fun. Be kind and celebrate every queer life.
